Work Experience Log Books

Placing students into the unfamiliar surroundings of a Work Experience placement can be a stressful experience for everyone involved. Students worry about what they should be doing and what to expect, staff worry about how they are going to conduct the co-ordinate the project in the first instance and whether students will benefit from the placement, and hosts worry whether the student will be prepared for the placement. For this reason we have developed an inexpensive tool which helps staff, students, employers and parents to plan successful placements with the minimum fuss.

Our Work Experience Log Book is a 32 page booklet which is presented to the students at the start of the planning stage providing them with a simple yet effective device with which to conduct the planning and execution of a successful placement.

The booklets help to:

• Reduce students’ anxiety and help to prevent problems and absenteeism on the day by recording pre-visit details and initial placement and travel details
• Make post-placement work easier and more accurate as students record thoughts, feelings and events throughout the placement
• Make students understand how key skills are developed and applied by getting them to record their work in a key skills chart
